Lagos State Government announced that it has successfully treated and discharged a 98-year-old woman from its isolation centre after test results came out negative, making her the oldest patient to be discharged from the state.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known via his verified Twitter page, where he stated that the woman happens to be the oldest COVID-19 patient in Lagos since the index case hits the state.

According to the governor, the woman was discharged alongside 25 others (13 males and 12 females) from the isolation center after testing negative for COVID-19.

Sanwo-Olu said;

"Today, we discharged a 98 year old woman, our oldest #COVID19 patient in Lagos. She joined 25 others; 13 males and 12 females, discharged from our isolation centres after testing negative for #COVID19, bringing the total of our successfully managed and discharged patients to 528."

Mackenzieskyblog learned that adults ages 65-85 make up the maximum percentage of COVID-19 deaths worldwide, especially those patients with chronic medical conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes, that can exacerbate the symptoms of COVID-19.

According to health practitioners, the ability of the immune system to fight off pathogens also declines with age, leaving elderly people vulnerable to severe viral infections.

Lagos State has now managed and discharged a total of 528 patients from its isolation centers nationwide.
