END SARS NOW: Nigerians React As FG Begs Naira Marley To Cancel Protest
Naira Marley
The Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, and the Nigeria Police Force have begged popular Nigerian singer, Naira Marley to cancel is proposed peaceful protest slated to hold on Tuesday October 6th.

The President of Marlian, Naira Marley and his Marlians nation planned to shake Nigeria with a mass action but the Minister and the Nigeria Police Force have appealed to the Musician.

The singer took to his verified Twitter page on Monday to call on his army 'The Marlians' to join him on a peaceful protest on Tuesday over the illegality of some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

He urges them to avoid fighting, stealing, and vandalizing properties belonging to the innocent citizen of the country as well as the properties belonging to the government as they embark on the protest.

In light of this, Dare urged the singer to desist from embarking on his peaceful protest, saying that the grievances faced by Nigerians are being addressed, hence no need to embark on peaceful protest.

In a tweet, the minister wrote:

“I urge you and other youth not to embark upon any protest. Your grievances are being addressed at the highest level of government.

“As the Minister in charge of youth I know this is an issue that must be tackled. Government is doing just that.”

MackenzieSkyBlog reports that the Nigeria Police Force writing via its Twitter page said it will be having a live meeting session with the Afropop artiste Naira Marley to discuss reforms for the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the force.

“Today, Tuesday 6th October, 2020, by 11am, the Force PRO- DCP Frank Mba will be having a live instagram chat with Naira Marley to answer questions and discuss the concerns of young Nigerians on the issues of SARS operations and other burning issues. Please stay tuned.

“The Inspector General of Police wishes to inform Nigerian youths that their voices and complaints on the issues of unprofessional conducts by some SARS operatives have been heared very loudly and clearly,” Nigerian police said in a statement.

Responding to this, Naira Marley took to his verified Twitter page to announce the cancellation of his #ENDSARS protest scheduled to hold today.

He wrote;

"We won’t be protesting anymore because there’s a lot of changes being made right now. As a Marlian we will give them a week to see the changes and if there’s no changes we will start a mass protest."

SARS and the Nigeria Police Force came under criticism at the weekend with many Nigerian youths trending different hashtags – #WarOnSARS and #EndSARSnow.
