Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that he will dispatch 400 to 500 officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to Apapa in order to put an end to the lingering traffic leading to the seaport.

The plan is to takeover traffic control from t is to takeover traffic from he Presidential Task Force and replacing them with LASTMA together with some group of police in Apapa Area B Police Command.

The official team has since a year ago been engaging the enduring traffic gridlock and different issues tormenting Apapa.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said this during a fact-finding visit yesterday to the Apapa Ports to learn the explanation behind the relentless clog in the port territory, regardless of providing a park for the articulated trucks.

He clarified that he would meet with the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, over the problems affecting good traffic management in the area.

Sanwo-Olu stated:

"Presently, there is a cycle that is beginning in which the state government needs to assume control over that team. One reason for this excursion is to begin that cycle; to see things for myself.

"The state government is to set up a consistent activity to have a group of LASTMA around 400 to 500 devoted to Apapa gridlock; have a group of cops from Area B committed to a similar gridlock..

"More importantly, have the option to address all the enormous men in the workplace, the ship owners, the port terminal administrators, cargo forwarders, who are not here with the port drivers, who we see that are the ones conveying the brunt.

"We are attempting to achieve far reaching measurements where all the partners in Apapa will comprehend and appreciate the different roles that everyone needs to play.

"This isn't the first time, surely not the second, and truth be told, this is about the third or the fourth time in my administration, that we are attempting to perceive how we can carry a suffering answer for the Apapa gridlock."

Sanwo-Olu frowned at a circumstance where the ports are secured for around eight to 10 hours since someone is attempting to take over from an associate and proprietors of merchandise are made to pay excess demurrage.
